⚠️ Extreme heat is increasingly undermining children's health.
🔸 One in five children (466 million) live in areas that experience at least twice as many extremely hot days each year compared to their grandparents' time, according to a UNICEF analysis. 🔸 Heat stress in the body caused by exposure to extreme heat is a particular threat to children's health.
🔸 Evidence also shows that nervous system development, mental health and general well-being suffer.
"Extreme heat is especially dangerous for infants because of their rapid heartbeat, so rising temperatures are even more worrisome for children," — said UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.
‼️ UNICEF calls on leaders, governments and private organizations to take urgent action on climate change that will protect every child's right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
